Shawn Simmons

1st Vice-commander at American Legion Post 1

Shawn Simmons MS serves as the Chairman of the Placer County Veterans Advisory Council since January 2020 and holds an associate position with the Non Commissioned Officers Association during the same period. Additionally, Shawn Simmons has been the Senior-Vice Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars since January 2018 and the 1st Vice-Commander of American Legion Post 1 since January 2017. With a distinguished career in the US Air Force Reserve, including the role of KC-10 Extender In-Flight Refueling Instructor, Shawn Simmons retired in April 2021. Prior to military service, Shawn Simmons worked with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation from July 1994 to 2019, holding various supervisory roles. Shawn Simmons holds a Master of Science degree in Emergency Response Administration from California State University, Long Beach.

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans service organization, devoted to mutual helpfulness. It is a not-for-profit community-service organization which now numbers 2 million members, men and women, in about 13,000 American Legion posts worldwide.
