Phil Morehart is an accomplished communications manager and arts critic with extensive experience in the library and arts sectors. Currently serving as the Communications Manager for the American Library Association since December 2012, Morehart is the editor and writer for the I Love Libraries initiative and holds positions as Senior Editor of American Libraries Magazine and host/producer of its podcast, Call Number with American Libraries. Morehart has a diverse freelance background, contributing as an arts critic and features writer for various publications, including the Riverside-Brookfield Landmark Newspaper and My Logan Square Community Guide, while also lecturing on cinema topics at institutions like Northwestern University. Additional roles have included a contributing writer for Video Librarian and arts critic for Cincinnati CityBeat Newspaper. Morehart's educational background includes a BA in History from Ohio University.

Merritt Humanitarian Fund was established in 1970 as a special trust in memory of Dr. LeRoy C. Merritt. It is devoted to the support, maintenance, medical care, and welfare of librarians who, in the Trustees' opinion, are: Denied employment rights or discriminated against on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, race, color, creed, age, disability, or place of national origin; Denied employment rights because of defense of intellectual freedom; that is, threatened with loss of employment or discharged because of their stand for the cause of intellectual freedom, including promotion of freedom of the press, freedom of speech, the freedom of librarians to select items for their collections from all the world’s written and recorded information, and defense of privacy rights.
