Fernando De Maio serves as the Vice President of Health Equity Research and Data Use at the American Medical Association since May 2020, having previously held the title of Director in the same department. In addition to current work, Fernando has been a faculty member at DePaul University since January 2011, progressing through ranks from Assistant Professor to Professor in the Department of Sociology. Prior academic experience includes an Assistant Professorship at Simon Fraser University from September 2005 to December 2010 and a role as Coordinator for the NHS Research Development and Support Group at the University of Essex. Fernando holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology and a Master of Arts in Sociology & Health Studies from the University of Essex, along with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology & Economics from the University of Toronto.
