Matt Willette worked as a Foreign Policy Writer at The Heritage Foundation from April 2006 to July 2007. Matt then transitioned to the American Optometric Association, where Matt currently holds the position of Chief Advocacy Officer (Federal). In this role, Matt serves as a lobbyist for the association and is responsible for advocating on Capitol Hill and federal agency for health care and related issues. Additionally, Matt has also held positions as the Director of Congressional Relations and Assistant Director of Federal Government Relations within the association.

The American Optometric Association represents approximately 39,000 doctors of optometry, optometry students and paraoptometric assistants and technicians. Optometrists serve patients in nearly 6,500 communities across the country, and in 3,500 of those communities are the only eye doctors. Doctors of optometry provide two-thirds of all primary eyecare in the United States.Founded in 1898, the AOA is a federation of state, student and armed forces optometric associations.
