Anita Rao

Anita Rao, M.D., is a physician and psychiatrist with extensive experience in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy. Currently, Anita serves as the owner and psychiatrist at ANITA RAO MD PLLC since June 2021 and is also a subject matter expert consultant for Hulu, focusing on the accurate portrayal of mental health in storytelling. As a Visiting Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Open Documentary Lab, Anita explores innovative storytelling methods to enhance mental health literacy. In addition, Anita co-founded Mindreader, a nonprofit aimed at educating the public about mental health. Previous roles include co-founding the Resident-Fellow Member Caucus at the American Psychiatric Association, serving as Senior Medical Officer for mental health innovation at the Chicago Department of Public Health, and holding various fellowships and positions emphasizing mental health among underserved communities. Anita completed residency in psychiatry at Northwestern University and holds an MD from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine and a BS from Georgetown University.
