Dana Porter has a strong background in the field of agricultural and biological engineering. Their current position is President at the ASABE (American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers), which they began in 2023. Prior to this, they held various positions at Texas A&M University, starting as an Assistant Professor and Extension Agricultural Engineer in 1998 and eventually becoming a Professor, Extension Program Leader, and Associate Department Head in 2015. They also worked as an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist at Texas A&M University from 2005 to 2015. Before joining Texas A&M, they worked as an Extension Specialist at West Virginia University Extension Service from 1996 to 1998. Their earlier experience includes serving as an Assistant Professor at New Mexico State University and as a General Engineer at USDA-ARS Crop Simulations Research Unit.

Dana Porter has a strong educational background in agricultural engineering. Dana obtained their Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering from Texas A&M University between 1983 and 1987. Dana then pursued further education at Texas A&M University, completing their Master of Science in Agricultural Engineering from 1987 to 1989. Later, they attended Mississippi State University, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy in Agricultural and Biological Engineering from 1989 to 1993. Additionally, Dana Porter holds a certification as a Licensed Professional Engineer in Agricultural Engineering, which they obtained from the New Mexico Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers & Professional Surveyors in February 1995.
