Vanessa Salcedo, MPH has a diverse work experience in healthcare and research. Vanessa currently works as the Associate Director of Practice Innovation and Implementation at the American Society of Anesthesiologists® since July 2022. In this role, they provide strategic direction and manages the perioperative surgical home (PSH) Learning Collaborative, advancing the PSH concept as a viable model of health care delivery, and monitoring the value-based care landscape.
Prior to their current position, Salcedo worked at the American Medical Association for several roles and responsibilities. From June 2016 to December 2017, they served as a Project Manager, responsible for developing and executing projects related to spreading the AMA's programs and products focused on diabetes prevention and cardiovascular risk reduction. Vanessa managed projects that addressed aspects for implementing change in physician and patient awareness, engagement, access to services/programs, and influencing healthcare stakeholders to support insurance coverage for products and programs that advance health outcomes. Additionally, they supported the AMA's House of Delegates Reference Committee on Public Health.
Before their role as a Project Manager, while working at the American Medical Association, Salcedo held the position of Population Health Research Associate from November 2013 to June 2016. In this role, they worked as a co-investigator on a patient activation study and a quality improvement study on identifying and treating patients with prediabetes. Vanessa also managed relationships between health systems and community resources and led diabetes prevention and associated continuing medical education (CME) products for physicians.
Salcedo started their career at the American Medical Association as an Improving Health Outcomes Program Associate from February 2013 to November 2013, where they supported various initiatives related to improving health outcomes. Vanessa also held the position of Prevention & Wellness Program Associate from February 2012 to February 2013. In this role, they wrote policy and media reports for the Board of Trustees, House of Delegates, and Council on Science and Public Health. Vanessa also analyzed and amended policies related to science, medicine, and public health and implemented and evaluated the AMA Healthier Life Steps® Toolkit.
Prior to their work at the American Medical Association, Salcedo worked at the University of Chicago. From March 2008 to February 2010, they served as a Lab Manager, where they cost-efficiently restructured and managed a molecular biology laboratory and provided technical advice and support to lab members. Vanessa also handled financial and budgetary matters and managed human resources needs for lab members. Earlier in their career, from September 2006 to January 2010, they worked as a Research Technologist, conducting research on cancer cells and characterizing radiation resistance and its evasion of the immune system.

Vanessa Salcedo, MPH obtained their Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree in Health Policy & Administration from the University of Illinois Chicago, where they studied from 2011 to 2013. Prior to pursuing their master's degree, they earned a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences from DePaul University. In addition to their formal education, Vanessa has obtained a Product Strategy Certificate from Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management in June 2020. Vanessa has also acquired certifications in CITI (Collaborative Institutional Training) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
