Golnar Abedin

Lead Clinical Faculty, Special Education at American University

Golnar Abedin, PhD has over two decades of work experience in the field of education. Currently, they serve as the Lead Clinical Faculty for the Special Education Department at Urban Teachers/American University in Washington, D.C. Golnar'sresponsibilities include leading the department and teaching coursework on inclusive and special education. Prior to this, they worked as an Inclusive Education/UDL Consultant at Inclusive Education Consulting and as the Lead Clinical Faculty for Special Education in the Urban Teachers Program at Johns Hopkins University School of Education.

In 2011, Abedin founded the Creative Minds International Public Charter School and served as the Executive Director until 2019. Before that, they worked as a School Leadership Consultant/Instructional Coach for D.C. Public Charter Schools. Golnar also had roles as a Special Education Consultant for the DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and Mary McCleod Bethune Public Charter School.

Abedin has experience in international education as well, having worked as an Education Consultant/Teacher Trainer for USAID. Golnar also conducted education research at the University of Maryland. Golnar'searly career involved working as a Special Education Teacher/Inclusion Coordinator for New York City Public Schools.

Golnar Abedin, PhD, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Rutgers University (1992-1996). Golnar pursued their Master of Arts degree in Special Education at Teachers College, Columbia University (1998-1999). Golnar Abedin then completed their Doctorate of Philosophy in Education Policy and Leadership at the University of Maryland (2003-2010).
