Brett McKee has over 38 years of work experience in the cable and communications industry. Brett began their career in 1983 as a General Manager at Times Mirror Cable Television and continued to hold various managerial positions at companies such as Cox Communications, Insight Communications, and Cablevision. In 1995, they served as the Vice President & General Manager at Cox Communications before moving on to become the General Manager at Insight Communications in 1997. From 1998 to 2001, they worked as the Managing Director at Cablevision before joining Mediacom Communications as the Director of Business Operations in 2002. In 2004, they became the Director of Business Development at Charter Communications. In 2007, Brett McKee founded American Ramp Systems, where they held the position of President until April 2021. Their role involved marketing, selling, and providing steel modular wheelchair ramps to residential and commercial customers. Additionally, they worked with construction firms to provide ADA accessible ramps during construction activities.

Brett McKee has a Bachelor's degree in English from San Jose State University, obtained in the years 1971 to 1974. Brett later pursued a Master's degree in Counseling from San Francisco State University, between 1977 and 1981. During this time, they also took Business and Accounting classes. In 1981 to 1982, Brett took Business classes at the University of California, Berkeley. Additionally, in 2011, they obtained a Contractors License from the State of California Contractors State License Board.
