Reinier Spek

Reinier Spek is an Orthopaedic Surgery Resident and General Surgery Resident at OLVG since January 2023, with ongoing research as a PhD candidate in a Cotutelle program between the University of Groningen and Flinders University since January 2021. Prior experience includes serving as a PhD candidate at Flinders Medical Centre from January 2020 to September 2022, focusing on proximal humerus fractures utilizing machine learning, 3D printed models, and virtual planning. Additionally, Reinier has contributed as a staff reviewer for the Amsterdam Medical Student journal since September 2016. Reinier holds a Master’s degree in Medicine and a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine from Utrecht University, completed between 2015 and 2019 and 2012 and 2015, respectively.

Amsterdam Medical Student journal

The Amsterdam Medical Student journal (AMSj) is the first scientific medical journal for students based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The purpose of AMSj is to enable medical students to publish their clinical observations, research and case reports. It was founded with the intention to provide the development of academic skills for medical students from both the Academic Medical Center (AMC, University of Amsterdam) and the VU Medical Center (VUmc, VU University), making it the first collaboration of two of the largest medical faculties in the Netherlands. Founded in 2014, the journal is entirely written, created and published by researchers, teachers and students from both faculties.
