Daniel Balls has held various positions in the biotechnology industry since 2003. Daniel began their career as a Scientist at Vectura in 2003, where they performed scale up research in the use of dry powder inhalers for the development of a range of inhaled therapies for the treatment of respiratory diseases. In 2006, they joined Lonza as a Purification Biotechnologist and was responsible for ensuring that Biopharmaceutical products were manufactured to a high standard of quality. In 2011, they worked as a Research Intern at Crossroads Antiracism Organizing & Training, researching health disparities between racial groups in the United States and developing a training curriculum. In 2014, they became Team Lead, Clinical Manufacturing at Oncobiologics Inc., managing and performing cGMP operations in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. In 2016, they took on the role of Technical Operations Senior Manager at AGC Biologics, developing and executing the operations and manufacturing startup plan for the new manufacturing facility. Since 2018, they have been employed at Amyris, first as Associate Director, Pilot Plant, then as Senior Pilot Plant Manager, and currently as Director, Pilot Plant. In these roles, they have implemented systems for improved efficiency and quality, played a leading role in Pilot Plant expansion, and demonstrated the ability to lead and motivate the pilot plant team.
Daniel Balls attended the University of East London from 2001 to 2005, where they obtained a Medical Biotechnology with Honours (BSc) degree in Biotechnology.
