David Páez-Espino

David Páez-Espino has a diverse work experience spanning multiple roles and companies. David is currently working at Ancilia Biosciences as the Chief Technology Officer, where they are involved in the development of novel bacterial therapies targeting viral components of the microbiome to address chronic diseases. David also co-founded the company in 2019.

Prior to their current position, David worked at Mammoth Biosciences where they held various roles, including Principal Data Scientist II and Metagenomics Lead. David was also the Associate Director of Discovery Informatics and worked as a Consultant.

Before joining Mammoth Biosciences, David worked at the Joint Genome Institute, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, as a Bioinformaticist Research Scientist from 2016 to 2020.

From 2013 to 2016, they were a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Joint Genome Institute (DOE-JGI), where they focused on Microbial Genomics & Metagenomics Scientific Program, specifically in the identification of novel viral genomes and their host organisms.

David's work experience also includes a Postdoc position at UC Berkeley from 2010 to 2013 and a PhD student position at Centro Nacional de Biotecnología (CNB-CSIC). At CNB-CSIC, they conducted research on microbial responses to environmental arsenic, the development of new tools for the study of gram-negative bacteria, and the transcriptional regulation of arsenic tolerance in P. putida.

Additionally, David has worked as a Researcher at Universidade Federal do Pará, where specific details were not provided, and as an assistant researcher at Centro de Ciencias Ambientales EULA-Chile where they studied environmental effects of mining and conducted a baseline study for the construction of a cellulose processing plant.

Earlier in their career, David served as the Environmental Projects Leader at Asha Handicraft Association.

David Páez-Espino obtained their Licenciado degree in Environmental Sciences from Universidad de Córdoba, where they studied from 1997 to 2002. In addition to their formal education, they have also pursued further certifications. David completed the course "Project Management: The Basics for Success" offered by Coursera in January 2021. Similarly, they obtained certification in "Programming for Everybody (Python)" from Coursera in August 2014. Moreover, David is a certified SCUBA diver, having obtained the certification from PADI, although the specific month and year are not mentioned.
