Holden Thorp

Holden Thorp is a Senior Advisor at Ancora Partners. Holden has also served as a Co-Founder and Consultant at Viamet Pharmaceuticals, Hatteras Venture Partners, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Holden Thorp was born in 1963 in Mississippi. Holden earned their B.A. in Chemistry from Rhodes College in 1985 and their Ph.D. in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology in 1989. Holden was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University from 1989 to 1991. In 1993, they joined the faculty of Washington University in St. Louis as an assistant professor of Chemistry, and in 1996 they were promoted to associate professor. In 1999, they were promoted to full professor, and in 2005 they became the Kenan Professor of Chemistry. From 2006 to 2011, Holden Thorp served as the provost of Washington University in St. Louis. In 2011, they became the chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a position they held until 2013. In 2014, they joined Artizan Biosciences as CEO, and in 2017 they became the editor-in-chief of Science Magazine.

Thorp received their PhD in Chemistry from Caltech and their Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Holden Thorp reports to Josh Parker, CEO. They are on a team with Hank Webber - Senior Advisor, Connections & Insights, Jeff Kingsbury - Chief Connectivity Officer, and John Philipchuck - Chief Investment Officer.
