Kenro Izu

Japanese-born Kenro Izu studied at the Nihon University College of Arts in Tokyo, he moved to New York and in 1974 established the Kenro Izu Studio. Specializing in a platinum-palladium print method, today Kenro travels the world, photographing sacred architecture.

Kenro made frequent trips to Cambodia between 1993-1996 to photograph the Angkor temples, and was moved by the ill and malnourished children he encountered. In response, in 1996 Izu founded Friends Without a Border (FWAB), an organisation devoted to raising funds for children’s hospitals in Cambodia and Laos. Through FWAB, Izu established Angkor Hospital for Children, opening its doors in 1999.

Izu’s vision for AHC was realised in 2013, when AHC became a locally-run and independently operated organisation.

In 2015 with FWAB, Izu opened the Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC) in Luang Prabang, Laos.
