Johan Vermaak

Johan Vermaak has a diverse work experience in the field of internal audit and assurance. Johan started their career as an Audit Manager at Deloitte South Africa in 1997. Johan then moved to Dorbyl in 1998, where they worked as an Audit Manager for a year. In 1999, they joined AngloGold Ashanti as an Internal Audit Manager and later held the position of Senior Audit Manager. After the merger with Ashanti Goldfields Ltd in 2004, they became the General Manager of Internal Audit and was transferred to Ghana. In 2010, they returned to South Africa and assumed the role of Senior Audit Manager, responsible for implementing a combined assurance process across the group. Finally, in 2015, they became the Vice President of Assurance at AngloGold Ashanti, overseeing all assurance activities within the company.

Johan Vermaak holds a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) Hons, CTA from Rand Afrikaans University, with a focus on Accounting and Finance, which they obtained from 1985 to 1990. Prior to that, they attended Hoerskool Goudrif from 1980 to 1984. Johan also passed the Qualifying Exam to become a Chartered Accountant (South Africa) in 1991. Additionally, they obtained certifications as a Certified Internal Auditor from The Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. in 2004 and as a Chartered Accountant from the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1993.
