Laura Speer has over 20 years of work experience in various roles within the non-profit sector. Laura started their career as the Head Start Director at Mission Neighborhood Centers, Inc. from 1991 to 1996. Laura then worked as a Research Director at the National Priorities Project from 1998 to 2000. Speer later joined Rhode Island KIDS COUNT as a Research Analyst from 2000 to 2003. Laura then moved to the Annie E. Casey Foundation, where they served as a Senior Associate from 2003 to 2011, an Associate Director of Policy Reform and Advocacy from 2011 to 2019, and currently holds the role of Director of Strategy Office of the President.
Laura Speer received their Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where they studied from 1988 to 1991. Laura later pursued a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with a focus on Public Policy at New York University, which they completed from 1996 to 1998.
