Freek Staps

Freek Staps is the editor-in-chief of the Dutch national news agency ANP and a member of the board at the Dutch Journalism Fund. Staps has an extensive background as a reporter, including time at NRC Handelsblad and as a New York-based correspondent, covering significant events like Hurricane Katrina and the Great Recession. They have held various roles in education, including lecturer positions at the University of Amsterdam and the University of Groningen, and have contributed to media innovation through initiatives like NRC Q and the SVDJ Accelerator. Staps is a Harvard and Columbia University Fellow and remains active in mentoring and supporting journalism in the Netherlands.
