Brett Neal has a Bachelor of Arts in Theology/Theological Studies from San Jose Bible College (now William Jessup University) earned between 1981 and 1985. Brett later received their Master of Arts in Education-Educational Administration from California State University, Bakersfield between 1996 and 1998. Brett has been part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District since August 1990, where Brett has held various roles such as High School Teacher, Site Administrator, Principal, Director School Improvement, and currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent, Personnel.

The Antelope Valley Union High School District (AVUHSD) includes eight traditional and three alternative high schools, SOAR -- an early college high school on the Antelope Valley College campus, the no-cost, charter Academy Prep Junior High, an online education program and Antelope Valley Adult Education. The district serves 23,000 students in the cities of Palmdale and Lancaster, and the surrounding area.
