Rachel Downey

Rachel Downey is a seasoned marine biodiversity data scientist with extensive experience in polar and deep-sea environments, currently serving as a Doctoral Researcher at The Australian National University. Rachel's research focuses on polar benthic invertebrates, enhancing genetic metadata recovery, and addressing stewardship issues in deep-sea data. Previous roles include Marine Geologist, Invasive Species Researcher, and Project Administrator for the SCAR Open Science Conference. Rachel's academic background includes an MSc in Geography from the University of Bristol and a postgraduate degree in Quaternary Science from Royal Holloway, University of London. Additionally, Rachel has contributed to various collaborative research projects, enhancing understanding of marine ecosystems while promoting early career scientists through leadership at APECS.
