The Academy of Oriental Medicine, located in Austin, Texas, is a graduateschool of integrative medicine offering degrees in Acupuncture andOriental Medicine. As AOMA is a functioning facility that conducts morethan 20,000 visits each year, students will receive a hands-on education.AOMA combines traditional academics, Acupuncture andOriental Medicinestudies with real world application and clinical rotations in order togive students a thorough and well-rounded education. This school alsoincorporates Asian mind-body practices such as Tai Chi and Qigong intothe curriculum, and students begin their clinical education during theirfirst term.Admissions requirements for AOMA dictate that applicants should have abachelor’s degree or higher, a minimum GPA of 2.5, and a personalstatement prepared in addition to their current resume and two letters ofreference. Students are also asked to submit their college transcripts,two passport-sized headshots, copies of any professional licenses orcertificates, and a nonrefundable application fee.AOMA does offer financial aid, but students must complete at least 38credits in four terms, in addition to demonstrating financial need, inorder to qualify for federal financial aid. This school offers assistancethrough payment plans, federal and state grants, private scholarships andloans.In addition to tuition and an application fee, AOMA has variousprogram-related fees. Foreign exchange students are asked to pay a largerapplication fee, and students must pay a make-up fee for any missedcourse exams.
