Martin Kolev

Martin Kolev is an experienced immunologist with a strong background in complement science and drug development. Currently serving as the Associate Director of Complement Science at Apellis Pharmaceuticals since August 2021, Martin leads early-stage discovery programs leveraging gene therapy and small molecule approaches, while also overseeing collaborations with academic researchers on complement inhibition in autoimmune diseases and cancer. Previously, Martin worked as a Scientific Investigator at GSK, engaging in early and mid-stage drug development, and as a Visiting Fellow at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, focusing on intracellular complement's role in immune cells. Martin's academic credentials include a PhD in Immunology from Cardiff University, a Master's in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Sofia University, as well as postdoctoral research at King's College London, and additional experience in Germany and Denmark.
