Apex for Youth
Carina Zhang is an experienced art therapy intern currently working at Apex for Youth and New York University, focusing on assisting art therapy sessions for individuals with Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis while conducting research on the impact of art making on motor skills and psychological wellbeing. Previous roles include Art Educator positions at Art Creativity Global and ViaX Online Education, where Carina enhanced students’ visual communication and creative problem-solving skills. Additionally, Carina has contributed to healthcare design at GoInvo and Boston Medical Center, creating tools for trauma screening and healthcare communication. An alumna of Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration, Carina is pursuing a Master’s degree in Art Therapy at New York University, with additional coursework in Developmental and Child Psychology from Brown University.

Founded in 1992, Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, our volunteers support and mentor students of all ages to build the next generation of tomorrow’s change makers.
