Apex for Youth
Melissa Alvey is an experienced Art Therapist currently employed at Apex for Youth since September 2021, following a role at Mount Sinai Health System from August 2018 to September 2021. Previous positions include Art Therapist and Case Manager at Libertas Center for Human Rights, as well as internships in art therapy at various institutions including Libertas Center for Human Rights and Kravis Children's Hospital. In addition, Melissa has experience as a Graphic Designer while self-employed in 2015 and as a Graphic and Lighting Design Intern at the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) from June 2012 to August 2013. Earlier work involved conserving rare books as a Preservation Assistant at the Peter J. Shields Library from July 2010 to June 2012. Academic qualifications include a Master's degree in Art Therapy from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design from the University of California, Davis, complemented by certifications from Fudan University and the Russian Academy of Art in Drawing and Painting.

Founded in 1992, Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Through programming focusing on health and well-being, education, and community engagement, our volunteers support and mentor students of all ages to build the next generation of tomorrow’s change makers.
