Joana Paredes Alves has a wealth of experience in the field of sustainability and business development. Joana began their career in 2005 as a lawyer for Sérvulo & Associados in Madrid, Spain. In 2006, they earned an LLM in International Business Law from King's College London. From 2007 to 2012, they worked as an Associate Lawyer for Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira in Lisbon, Portugal and London, UK. During this time, they also worked as a Director, Legal and Sustainability manager for the Eduardo VII Group of Hotels. In 2012, they became an International Research Scholar and Lecturer at Fordham University in New York, USA. In 2017, they became a Climate Reality Project Consultant for the non-profit organization founded by Al Gore. In 2018, they joined Welever, a sustainability tech company, as Director of Global Strategy & Business Development and Country Manager for Portugal and Brazil. Finally, in 2019 they co-founded APlanet, a company that strives to bring sustainability to the forefront of business objectives.

Joana Paredes Alves has a diverse educational background. Joana obtained a Law Degree with International Business Law Major from Universidade Católica Portuguesa between 2000 and 2005. Joana then attended King's College London, where they earned a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Business Law in 2006 and 2007. From 2012 to 2013, they were an International Visiting Research Scholar and Lecturer at Fordham University. In 2018 and 2019, they completed an Advanced Program in Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management - PAEGI at Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics. Joana also attended Harvard University in 2019, where they earned an Executive Education for Sustainability Leadership. In 2021, they completed a Winning Sustainability Strategies course at IMD. Finally, they are currently attending the University of Cambridge, where they are studying Business Sustainability Management. Additionally, they hold a Certificate of Proficiency in English.
