Walt Townsend has extensive work experience in the technology and traffic management industry. Walt started their career at Multisonics in 1986, where they worked as an Electrical Engineer, leading a team in hardware design and software development for real-time communications and control systems. In 1992, they joined Intersection Development Corporation as a Software Engineer, where they designed and developed software for real-time traffic management systems and led the VMS-330 and ITMS product development.
In 1996, Walt worked at TransCore as an Engineer before joining Gardner Systems in 1998 as a Regional Manager in the Southeast. At Gardner Systems, they opened the Atlanta office and provided software consulting and application development services for traffic engineering. Walt also managed a software development team and enhanced software products for customers in the Southeast.
In 2000, Walt joined Siemens Industry as a Regional Manager in the Southeast, responsible for integrating and deploying freeway and arterial traffic management systems. Walt worked closely with customers to define requirements, develop integration and test plans, and design software to meet their needs. Walt also designed a CORBA-based real-time messaging architecture used as a backbone for traffic control systems. In 2008, they transitioned to the role of Engineering Project Manager, managing projects involving the integration and deployment of traffic management systems and coordinating various activities from requirements definition to acceptance testing.
Walt continued their career at Siemens as an Applications Engineer from 2011 to 2016, where they engaged in project work and utilized their expertise in traffic management systems. In 2016, they joined Applied Information Inc as the VP Applications Engineering, and later moved on to become the VP of Technology in 2020.
Throughout their career, Walt Townsend has demonstrated a strong background in traffic management systems, software development, project management, and leadership.
Walt Townsend attended the Georgia Institute of Technology from 1979 to 1986, where they pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering. Walt successfully completed their studies and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
