Marisa McKay

Design Manager at Applied Invention

Marisa McKay began their career in 1996 as a Production and Design professional in the Film and TV industry. In 1998 they moved into Production and Design for Concerts and Events. In 2007 they were a Senior Art Designer for Scenario Design, a design/build company specializing in thematic construction and scenic fabrication. From 2008 to 2014, they were the Founder and Designer of Janus Design, Inc., handling design and marketing needs for select projects. In 2015, they were the Art Director and Producer for Feral Production, a boutique production company servicing sports, fashion, lifestyle and beauty brands. Marisa was also the Design and Production Manager for a Zappos sponsored back to school family crafting event in Austin, TX. Additionally, they held the role of Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing for The Neutra Institute / Dion Neutra, Inc. In 2017, they became the Design Manager for Applied Invention, where they managed Design for The Clock of the Long Now in collaboration with Danny Hillis, Jeff Bezos and the Long Now Foundation, as well as a commercial Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) project in development. In 2014, they founded Atelier MM, where they are a Maker of unique and custom apparel, jewelry, accessories and home goods.

Marisa McKay attended Highline College from 1993 to 1995, where they earned an AA in English and Theatre. Marisa also attended South Seattle College from 1994 to 1995, earning an AA in English. In 2017, they began attending Santa Monica College. In May 2021, they obtained a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute.
