Aquaya
Rawlings Akamanya is an experienced program manager currently overseeing the Water Testing, Research and Capacity Strengthening (WaterTRACS) program at Aquaya in Uganda since March 2022. Previously, Rawlings held positions as Senior Program Officer and Program Officer, managing Hilton Africa Water Quality Testing Fellowship activities in collaboration with Makerere University. With a background in engineering and project management, Rawlings served as Engineer and Field Engineer at Africa Community Technical Service (ACTS) from September 2014 to March 2022, providing engineering support and conducting audits on previous projects. Earlier experiences include working as a Rural Water Officer and Engineering Intern to improve access to clean water in South Western Uganda, as well as co-founding SwitchFORD Ltd, focusing on construction and missionary support. Rawlings holds a Master’s degree in Water Management for Development from Loughborough University, a Master’s degree in Project Management for International Development from Social Change School, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Makerere University.

The Aquaya Institute is a non-profit research and consulting organization. We deliver knowledge and tools to help achieve universal access to safe water. Aquaya strengthens public and private delivery of clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) access in developing countries by combining cutting edge research with strategic consulting. Founded in 2005 by two PhD scientists, Aquaya’s goal is to bridge the divide between academic research and field implementation of measures that expand access to safe drinking water.
