Tuomo Kauranne

Tuomo Kauranne has a diverse and extensive work experience in various roles and organizations. Tuomo began their career as a Programmer with IBM in 1980 before moving on to roles such as Project Engineer at the Finnish Environment Institute in 1983 and a Teaching Assistant at the University of Helsinki in 1984. In 1985, they joined CSC - IT Center for Science as a Project Manager, where they played a key role in Finland's first supercomputer acquisition project. Tuomo then worked as a Consultant at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts from 1988 to 1992. In 1991, they joined the University of Joensuu as a senior assistant before taking on the role of visiting researcher at CINECA from 1997 to 1999. In 2001, they became an Associate Professor at Lappeenranta University of Technology, where they remained until 2019. Throughout their career, they have also held leadership positions as President and Chairman at Arbonaut Ltd. Tuomo Kauranne's expertise includes mathematical software and computational fluid dynamics.

Tuomo Kauranne completed their education with a Doctor of Forestry h.c. degree from the University of Eastern Finland in 2014. Tuomo also holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Applied Mathematics from LUT University, which they obtained in 2002. In 1991, Tuomo earned a PhLic degree in Information Technology from the University of Jyväskylä. Prior to that, they received a Master's Degree in Computer Science from the University of Helsinki in 1988, and a Bachelor's Degree in the same field from the same university in 1983. In addition, Tuomo has an honorary Ph.D. in Agriculture and Forestry from the University of Eastern Finland, conferred in 2014. Tuomo also holds the title of Docent in Forest Information Systems from the University of Eastern Finland, awarded in 2014, as well as the title of Docent in Industrial Mathematics from LUT University, achieved in 2010.
