Mark Atkinson has extensive experience in research and development within the steel industry, currently serving as the Head of Project Management Global R&D at ArcelorMittal since November 2007. In this role, Mark established a Project Management Office to support strategic projects alongside significant leadership positions, including Senior Director of Global R&D laboratories in East Chicago, where oversight of approximately 150 employees and a $40 million budget was key. Previous roles at ArcelorMittal included Director of Process Development and Research Manager for both Energy and Recycling and Casting. Prior to joining ArcelorMittal, Mark held various positions at United States Steel Corporation, focusing on CO2 and energy technologies, and worked at National Steel Corporation in operations and technical management. Mark holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and a BS in Energy Technology and Management from Swansea University.
