George Bell is a Senior Partner. Over an 11-year period, George was with General Catalyst Partners as a Managing Director, and then an Executive in Residence. George is a 30-year veteran of creating and growing consumer-facing and software businesses with over $7.5bn in exits.

George was President and CEO of Jumptap, a General Catalyst portfolio company, which sold to Millennial Media (NYSE: MM). George was also President and CEO of Upromise, a General Catalyst portfolio company, sold to Sallie Mae. He is the former chairman and CEO of Excite and Excite@Home – Excite was one of the earliest search engines, for which he led the IPO in April 1997; founder of The Outdoor Life Network (now NBC Sports Network); former Board Chair, Harris Interactive, sold to Nielsen; and former SVP of Times Mirror Magazines, overseeing titles such as SKI and Field & Stream.

George has written and spoken on digital media regularly over the years, appearing on CNBC as a regular guest in the early chapters of the internet, He is the recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for California and New England; and a four-time Emmy Award-winning producer and writer of documentaries on an adventure, wildlife, and vanishing cultures. In addition, George was lead director of Care.com (sold to IAC) in September 2020; and board member at Angie’s List (sold to IAC) in 2017; and is currently a board member at John Wiley & Son’s (NYSE: JW-B). George is a board member at Trust for Public Land and SquashBuasters. George has done Bikram yoga for 20 years and is still stiff.
