Renato Toffanin (He/Him)

Managing Director

Renato Toffanin is the co-founder and managing director of ARCHES, bringing over three decades of experience at the intersection of health, innovation, and research management. He holds a Laurea degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Trieste and began his career as a research fellow at the National Research Council in Rome. From 1989, he contributed to the development of POLY-bios and POLY-tech at Area Science Park, and from 1997 to 2005, he led the Laboratory of NMR Microscopy at the University of Trieste, advancing healthcare-focused research.

Since 2005, Renato has led ARCHES in expanding its research portfolio, financing, and international collaborations. He played a key role in founding Knowledge4Innovation (K4I) and its Forum in the European Parliament (Brussels). He has collaborated with Fraunhofer IMW to promote internationalisation, sustainable development, and innovation-driven value creation. Most recently, Renato has contributed as an R&D expert in Ankara for the EU-funded AnkaTheraHub project, supporting the development of theranostics solutions and high-tech SME engagement. His professional interests span health, environment, innovation policy, and foresight, with extensive experience in managing and contributing to EU-funded research and innovation projects.
