Associated Recreation Council
Judy Tangen grew up in a logging community on the Washington Coast. With the help of scholarships, she was able to graduate from U of W in 1969 with a business education degree. While she didn't end up being a teacher, she built a career in the metals industry working for locally owned Alaskan Copper. She has lived in the Loyal Heights neighborhood since 1972 and raised her family with the help of the Loyal Heights Community Center. She retired in 2017 at the age of 70. She is now working on herself. She is reading and taking classes on how to be an active antiracist. She feels so fortunate to be retired. It gives her the freedom to keep improving the quality of her life and to help build a bigger and more inclusive world around her.
