David Cates

David Cates is a seasoned law enforcement professional currently serving as Captain of the Major Crimes District at the Arizona Department of Public Safety since February 2002, commanding investigations related to violent crimes, fraud, and public corruption. Cates has held various leadership positions, including managing the Processing & Compliance Section and overseeing the Capitol Patrol District, ensuring safety for visitors and state officials. With extensive experience in highway patrol management, investigative units, and security, Cates has conducted numerous critical investigations and operational oversight. Educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Loyola University Chicago and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.
