Martita Goshen

Resident Artist / Teacher at ArtsConnection

Martita Goshen is a seasoned dance artist and educator with extensive experience spanning multiple decades. As the Director and Founder of Turtles Inc / Earthworks since 1981, Martita has led a nonprofit organization that promotes environmental awareness through dance performances and workshops. Martita's diverse dance background includes training with renowned choreographers and teachers, contributing to roles as a Resident Artist and Teacher at ArtsConnection and a Modern Dancer at Earthworks. In addition, Martita is a member of the Carl Jung Institute NYC, specializing in Sand Play Therapy and certified as a Rubenfeld Synergist. Recognition includes the Jubilation Fellowship Award for Excellence in Teaching Children the Joy of Dance, which supported the creation of the documentary film The Harmony Project. Martita also served as a Master Teacher at the Dance Education Laboratory and received the Dance Magazine Choreographic Award for the work "Lost World." Academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in History and French from Elmira College and a Master of Arts in Political Science from West Virginia University.

ArtsConnection is a nationally recognized non-profit arts education organization with a 40-year history of giving New York City public school students, pre-kindergarten through grade 12, the skills, motivation and positive reinforcement they need to succeed academically and personally. Our award-winning arts programs support literacy and foster communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. We direct our work to the most high-needs communities, and each year reach 45,000 students through partnerships with over 120 public schools across the 5 boroughs and through after-school and weekend initiatives that engage middle and high school students in the cultural resources of New York City. Children and teens are learning to better understand themselves and the world around them through our music, dance, theater, media and visual arts programming led by a faculty of over 125 specially-trained professional artists who share their distinctive artistic perspectives to inspire, guide and teach students.
