Virpi Muhonen

Virpi Muhonen has a long and impressive work experience. Virpi began their career in 2003 as a Researcher at the University of Oulu. In 2010, they moved to the University of Helsinki as a Postdoctoral Researcher, where they managed the Orthopaedic Research Laboratory and wrote funding applications. In 2012, they became a Postdoctoral Fellow at Erasmus MC and a Senior Researcher at the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS). At HUS, they worked on a collaborative project with the Finnish Red Cross Blood Service for the translation of autologous chondrocytes derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells for articular cartilage repair. In 2013, they were a Research Coordinator at the University of Helsinki and in 2014 they returned to HUS as a Senior Researcher. In 2015, they became a Visiting Researcher and Principal Investigator at the University of Helsinki and a Member Board of Directors at Do Company Oy. In 2017, they were appointed Chief Executive Officer of Askel Healthcare Ltd, where they were responsible for commercializing the best possible solution for treating damaged cartilage. Finally, in 2019, they became a Board Member at Vaikuttavuussäätiö.

Virpi Muhonen obtained their PhD in Orthopaedic Tissue Engineering from the University of Oulu in 2008. Prior to this, they earned their MSc in Biology and Animal Physiology from the University of Oulu in 2003.
