Robert Wheeler has a diverse work experience in the publishing industry. From 1992 to 1993, they worked as a Special Assistant to the Managing Editor at Plenum, where they prepared camera-ready volumes for production and established the company's first in-house book typesetting department. Robert then joined Plenum AG - Management Consulting in 1993 as a Supervising Editor, overseeing the Preproduction Department and managing the production of 200-300 volumes annually.
In 2000, Robert joined Springer Nature Group as an Electronic Production Associate, where they posted and tracked content for 165 online journals and collaborated with vendors for corrections. Robert moved on to the Electronic Development Group at Springer Nature Group, where they worked on various initiatives focused on XML content and digital workflows.
In 2005, Robert joined the American Institute of Physics and held several roles. As an Operations Support Manager, they supervised a team responsible for operational and technical support for print and online publication. Robert was later promoted to Manager of Scitation Operations, where they managed the Scitation publishing platform, hosting content from 30 publishers and overseeing various online products and services. Finally, they served as a Product Manager for Scitation, directing the strategy and feature development of AIP's online publishing platform.
Most recently, since 2012, Robert has been serving as the Director of Publishing Technology at ASME, where they oversee the implementation of technology solutions for publishing operations.
Robert Wheeler earned their BFA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing from Emerson College, where they attended from 1986 to 1990.
