Matt Stern has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Matt started their career as an AIDS Education Coordinator at the Service Employees International Union in 1989. Matt then served as the Executive Director of Northern Lights, a non-profit social service agency, from 1990 to 1994. During their tenure, they successfully turned the organization around and increased revenues by 300%.

After that, Matt worked as a Project Director at Cool Software from 1994 to 1996, an Excel Applications Developer/Consultant at Genentech from 1996 to 1998, and a Lotus Notes Developer/Consultant at PeopleSoft from 1997 to 2000.

In 2002, they transitioned to the education sector and became a Math Teacher at the NYC Department of Education. Matt also interned as an Assistant Principal under the M. Ed. program at Teachers College, Columbia University. During their time as a teacher, Matt implemented strategies to address low student performance and improved problem-solving skills.

In 2006, Matt joined the Harrison Central School District as a Math & AP Computer Science Teacher. Matt then moved on to become the President of ZviDance, a contemporary dance company, from 2009 to 2011. In this role, they collaborated with the board, executive director, and artistic director on strategic planning, development, financial management, and board recruitment.

In 2014, Matt joined ASPCA as the Senior Director of Operations - Policy, Response & Engagement Division. Matt provided high-level leadership, support, and coordination for division operations. Matt also served as the Vice President - Policy, Response & Engagement from 2020 to 2023, where they spearheaded grantmaking, strategic initiatives, budgeting, and operations.

Lastly, Matt assumed the role of Vice President - Grants & Administration at ASPCA in 2023. Matt led the grant-making efforts of the organization, developed grant strategies and budgets, and oversaw a four-person grants management team. During their tenure, the ASPCA made over 450 grants totaling nearly $12 million to support animal welfare capacity, research, innovation, and public policy change.

Matt Stern earned a B.S. in Computer Science & Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Matt later pursued an M.A. in Education at The City College of New York. In 2005-2006, they completed an Ed.M. in Organizational Leadership at Teachers College, Columbia University. Additionally, there is no available information on their education at The TAI Group.
