George Sakakeeny

George Sakakeeny is a distinguished professional bassoonist and educator with extensive experience in teaching and orchestral performance. Currently serving as Professor of Bassoon at the Eastman School of Music since July 2016 and Artist Faculty at the Aspen Music Festival and School since December 2022, George also holds the position of Acting Principal Bassoon with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. Previously, George was the Principal Bassoon with the Eastern Festival Orchestra from 2013 to August 2022 and a Professor of Bassoon at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music from July 1989 to June 2017. George gained valuable experience as Principal Bassoon with the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra from 1979 to 1983. George earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Bassoon Performance from the Eastman School of Music between 1974 and 1978.
