Venkatesh Nemmara has worked in a variety of roles in the scientific field. From 2008 to 2014, they were a PhD student and teaching assistant at Wesleyan University, where they conducted steady state substrate turnover and enzyme inhibition experiments to determine the substrate specificity of bacterial DD-peptidases, synthesized and biochemically characterized non-canonical cyclic peptides, and investigated the conformational basis of the substrate specificity of DD-peptidases using cyclic peptides. From 2014 to 2016, they were a Postdoctoral Associate with Prof. Frank M. Raushel at Texas A&M University, where they conducted the recombinant expression and purification of phosphotriesterases from P. diminuta and Agrobacterium radiobacter and performed kinetic pH profile, stability and metal reconstitution studies. From 2016 to 2019, they were a Postdoctoral Research Associate with Prof. Paul Thompson at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. In 2019, they began a tenure track Assistant Professor role at Rowan University. Currently, they are a Senior Assay Specialist/Manager at AssayQuant Technologies Inc. and a Principal Scientist at Treeline Biosciences.
Venkatesh Nemmara obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from the University of Calicut between 2000 and 2003. Venkatesh then went on to earn their Master of Science in Chemistry from Pondicherry University between 2003 and 2005. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry from Wesleyan University between 2008 and 2014.
