Kate Johanns, CAE has a diverse work experience in various fields. Kate started their career as a Summer Reporting Intern at The Roanoke Times in 2001. Kate then worked as a writer at Remoir Inc., where they transcribed taped interviews and ghostwrote articles and book chapters. Kate also freelanced as a writer for Quizfest magazine at Bauer Publishing from 2005 to 2006.

In 2002, they joined Association of Texas Professional Educators as a Staff Writer and Assistant Editor. Over the years, they took on different roles within the organization, including Editor, Communications Director, and ultimately Marketing & Communications Director. During their time at the association, they supervised a team of copy editors/writers and graphic designers, managed the production process of a quarterly magazine, and oversaw the development and implementation of marketing campaigns and conference promotions.

From 2014 to 2015, Kate served as the Marketing and Events Coordinator at Catholic Charities of Central Texas, where they focused on enhancing brand recognition and worked closely with development staff on fundraising initiatives.

Kate then became the Director of Marketing and Communications at Texas Public Employees Association, where they developed and implemented multichannel marketing and communications strategies to achieve legislative goals and increase association membership. Kate worked closely with lobbyists to prepare resource materials for the Texas Legislature.

In 2017, they joined Strategic Association Management as a Communications / Account Manager and later became the Account Director. In these roles, they managed website management, newsletter production, social media, and conference collateral for a 5,000-member statewide science educator association and a national real estate trade association. Kate also served as the internal project manager for an association rebrand effort and managed a website/database migration project.

Most recently, Kate has been freelancing as a writer and editor under their own business, Kate Johanns, Writing and Editing. Kate specializes in helping clients deliver clear and compelling messages in various content formats.
