Monica Jones began their career in 2000 as a Staff Accountant at the Department of Pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University, where they were responsible for monthly reconciliations for approximately 200 accounts for two interrelated entities and reconciliations for thirteen grants totaling $715,462. Additionally, they coordinated the administrative and accounting processes for faculty and staff travel for three organizations and provided extensive financial data for integration into three organizations’ annual budgets prepared by the Business Manager. In 2003, they were promoted to Budget Manager at the Department of Pathology, where they analyzed extensive monthly and quarterly actual and budgeted revenue and expense detail for three interrelated organizations with combined annual net revenues of $60 million. Monica also consistently completed monthly and quarterly summaries of financial results to senior management within time sensitive deadlines, as well as determined specific compensation expense breakdowns for 31 faculty members and accurately reallocated expense distributions between two organizations prior to the fiscal year cutoff date. In 2007, Monica Jones moved to the Association of Science-Technology Centers as a Grants Accountant, where they provided knowledge and insight on grants and contracts to principal grant investigators and project managers to ensure proper administration of funds and execution of final products for federal and foundation grants. Monica was also responsible for payroll process for 25 employees and a variety of monthly accounting and financial reporting activities for an organization with an annual budget of $5 million. Additionally, they negotiated contracts with media enterprises and technological organizations, as well as science centers, museums, hotels and consultants, ensuring that the contractors complied with all sponsor and ASTC requirements. Monica left the organization in January 2015, but returned as a consultant from March 2015 to April 2015 before being rehired in May 2015.

Monica Jones obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2000, with a field of study in Information Systems. Monica obtained a Bachelor of Science (BS) from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1996, with a field of study in Accounting and Finance. In 2006, they obtained a Certified Research Administrator (CRA) from the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC).
