Tom K. currently serves as the Executive Director of the California Privacy Protection Agency, a position held since April 2025. In addition, Tom K. is the author of "Containing Big Tech: How to Protect Our Civil Rights, Economy, and Democracy," published by Fast Company Press in August 2023. Since August 2020, Tom K. has been a volunteer policy advisor for various campaigns and advocacy groups, notably proposing and co-drafting California Senate Bill 942, also known as the California AI Transparency Act. Tom K. is also engaged as a seed investor in several companies, including Sonans AI, Numero, Speechlab, Amplifier Security, uno.ai, ShareID, and EyeVi Technologies. Educational credentials include a Bachelor of Science in History and Computer Science from the University of Michigan, completed between September 1984 and December 1988.
