Presanthan Thayalan has extensive experience in legal and compliance roles. Presanthan is currently serving as the Head of Legal & Compliance at Athena Home Loans since December 2022. Prior to this, they held the same role at Athena Home Loans from June 2020 to July 2022, and also served as the Head of Compliance from September 2019 to June 2020.
Before joining Athena Home Loans, Presanthan worked as the Executive Manager of Business Bank Product Compliance at Westpac from July 2018 to September 2019. Presanthan also served as an Associate Director of Compliance & Conduct at KPMG Australia from March 2018 to June 2018.
Earlier in their career, Presanthan held positions such as Regulatory Compliance Manager at AFEX from July 2017 to March 2018, Compliance Manager & Counsel at ING Australia from May 2015 to July 2017, and Attorney at American Express from September 2013 to August 2014.
Presanthan started their career as a Solicitor at Grace Lawyers from June 2010 to December 2010, and also worked at Platinum Lawyers Pty Ltd (NSW) as a Solicitor from February 2010 to June 2010. Presanthan began their legal career as a Solicitor at Shearn Delamore & Co from December 2009 to February 2010.
Presanthan Thayalan has a diverse educational background. Presanthan began their education at Wesley College, where they obtained their VCE qualification. Later on, they attended Bond University from 2005 to 2007, earning a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree with a focus on Law. In 2008 and 2009, Presanthan went to The College of Law Australia, where they completed a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, preparing him for their legal career. Presanthan continued their education at UNSW from 2009 to 2011, earning a Graduate Diploma of Laws with a specialization in Corporate, Commercial, and Taxation. Additionally, in 2015 and 2016, they attended the Governance, Risk, & Compliance Institute, where they obtained a Certificate in Compliance Management, further developing their expertise in compliance.
