Darren Hayes

Darren Hayes is a seasoned engineering professional with extensive experience in electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electrical systems. Currently serving as Chief Engineer and Practice Manager at AtkinsRéalis since October 2022, Darren oversees operations within the Electrical System practice, focusing on business strategy, budgeting, recruitment, and growth. Notable recent projects include contributions to Nuclear New Build assessments and the Midland Mainline Electrification. Previously, Darren held the position of Principal Engineer and Energy Systems Team Leader at SNC-Lavalin, where responsibilities included serving as the Atkins Technical Authority for EMC. An extensive career includes roles as Lead EMC Engineer at BOMBARDIER, managing numerous high-profile rolling stock projects, and various positions at York EMC Services, where Darren's leadership guided a leading UKAS accredited EMC test laboratory. Darren holds a Master's degree in EMC and RF Communications from the University of York and a BEng in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Leeds.
