W. Carl Jacobs

Medical Director, Surgical Pathology at Atrium Health

W. Carl Jacobs, M.D. serves as the Medical Director of Surgical Pathology at Atrium Health since October 2019, overseeing a high-volume laboratory handling over 90,000 surgical specimens annually. In addition, W. Carl Jacobs has been a Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathologist at Carolinas HealthCare System since July 2011 and was the Director of Quality Assurance at Carolinas Pathology Group from January 2014 to November 2019. A former Fulbright Scholar at the University of Vienna, W. Carl Jacobs focused on media theory and philosophy, particularly exploring Karl Kraus’s critique of 20th-century Viennese media. W. Carl Jacobs completed an Anatomic Pathology Fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School and earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, following a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
