Gavan Gleeson

Gavan Gleeson's work experience began in 1998 at Bord Gais Energy, where they provided technical support and handled escalations for Windows NT users. Gavan also assisted with the company-wide roll-out of a new operating system and managed the organization's OpenVMS VAX backups. In 2000, they joined Thomas Crosbie Media as a Systems Administrator, where they administered and maintained Windows Server Active Directory at 12 sites. Gavan also migrated physical servers and applications to the AWS Cloud and provided technical support for approximately 350 Windows users.

In 2010, Gavan moved to Irish Examiner and worked as a Cloud & Systems Administrator, handling the consolidation of the organization's IT infrastructure and migrating workloads to AWS and VMware vSphere/ESXi. Gavan managed and maintained the internal SAN infrastructure and provided technical support for both in-house and remote sites.

In 2012, Gavan joined VMware as a Senior Technical Support Engineer, specializing in virtualization, networking, and storage-related issues. Gavan provided advanced technical support on a range of VMware products and resolved complex customer escalations. Gavan also collaborated with developers and management on testing virtualization solutions and provided mentoring and training to support engineers.

From 2014 to 2017, they worked at Huawei Technologies as a Cloud Infrastructure Architect. Gavan was responsible for designing, configuring, and deploying physical hardware for multiple OpenStack private Cloud environments. Gavan also configured and deployed OpenStack Cloud components.

Gavan'smost recent role was as a Senior DevOps Engineer at AlienVault since 2017. Here, they designed, developed, and maintained CI/CD pipelines for code deployment in multiple environments and regions in AWS. Gavan developed automation and deployment utilities using Terraform, Bash, Git, Python, and Rundeck. Gavan also managed builds using Maven and ran regression tests.

Gavan Gleeson's education history includes a Masters (MSc) in Cloud Computing from Cork Institute of Technology, which they obtained from 2011 to 2013. Prior to that, they completed a Higher Diploma in Computer Science from University College Cork. Gavan also holds a Degree in Honours Applied Psychology from the same university.

In addition to their formal education, Gavan has obtained several certifications. Gavan earned a certification in Software Defined Networking from the Georgia Institute of Technology in May 2014.
