Derek R. Whaley

Derek R. Whaley is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in library services, history education, and customer service. Currently serving as an Acquisition Specialist at Auckland Council since May 2019, Derek leads projects aimed at organizing and digitizing archival collections for public access. Previously held roles include Senior Librarian at Christchurch City Council and History Course Tutor at the University of Canterbury, where Derek contributed to curriculum development and assessment. Educational credentials include a Ph.D. in History from the University of Canterbury and a Master’s in Early Modern History from Swansea University, complemented by a Secondary Teaching Credential in Social Studies from Point Loma Nazarene University.
