At the Auditory Aging Lab, we are an interdisciplinary research group dedicated to advancing auditory health and communication for an aging population. Based at the Rotman Research Institute at Baycrest and the University of Toronto, our team combines hearing science, cognitive neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and computational modeling to better understand how people listen, comprehend, and connect as they grow older.

Our research bridges cutting-edge neurophysiological methods, real-world listening experiments, and modern AI tools — including large language models and speech synthesis — to study the aging auditory system in both controlled and natural environments. We develop novel assessments of speech comprehension, investigate the neural underpinnings of auditory perception, and explore how hearing loss, cognitive function, and everyday communication are intertwined.

By integrating technology and science, we aim to inform clinical practices, support healthy aging, and create tools that make communication more accessible and effective for older adults.
