Mr. Thulsiraj, with his expertise in setting up culturally relevant solutions to the problem of avoidable blindness, has served as Advisor to several national and international agencies. He has been the Regional Chairman of South East Asia's International Agency - Prevention of Blindness. He is a visiting Faculty of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and many other Business schools across the world. He was instrumental in establishing a sustainable, scalable model of eye care service delivery that has since been studied and replicated by providers across the globe.
He joined Aravind Eye Hospital and Postgraduate Institute of Ophthalmology as an Administrator in 1981. He became Executive Director of Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology in 1996. He was the President of "Vision 2020 the Right to Sight: India".
Mr. R.D Thulasiraj holds his Bachelor's from Madras Christian College and PGDM (MBA) from Indian Institute of Management - Kolkata. He began his career as Systems Manager in Berger paints (India) Ltd., Calcutta in June 1973.
