Matthew Gustafson

Section Cellist (tenured) at Austin Symphony

Matthew Gustafson is an accomplished cellist and educator with extensive experience in teaching, performance, and music service. As the Lead Low Strings Teaching Artist at Austin Soundwaves since January 2022, Matthew leads lessons on cello and bass, collaborates with orchestral directors, and supports concerts. Concurrently, Matthew holds a tenured position as Section Cellist with the Austin Symphony Orchestra and provides private cello instruction at CLAVIER-WERKE SCHOOL OF MUSIC, LLC. Additional roles include musician for Terra Vista Strings, where Matthew performs at weddings and events, and previous positions as a Section Cellist for the Central Texas Philharmonic and private teacher at UT String Project. Matthew holds a Master of Music degree from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Music degree from Rice University.
